MEET THE MUSE

You transitioned from supermodel to artist. What sparked this shift?
My first love was painting, and I had always imagined that was my life’s direction. My modelling career was a serendipitous surprise that took my life on a different path. So coming full circle to my first love feels like a natural progression to embodying all of myself.

Tell us about a significant encounter that has impacted your artistic journey.
I don’t know that I can write of one encounter, yet I often find inspiration appears somewhat unexpectedly when working with other creative people. I think creativity is fed when we encounter creativity in others; it’s as though creativity feeds itself.

When do you feel the most creatively charged?
Besides feeling fed by being around other creative people, I often feel most creatively charged in the morning before the outside world filters into my internal world. I love waking in our home in the mountains at sunrise to meditate, have tea and journal. I find creativity is ignited, and ideas land perhaps from spirit in those quiet moments.

What is something that your creativity has taught you?
I have learned that ideas evolve from that initial spark and are often quite different in the end from what we initially envision and that allowing the idea to evolve allows for something greater to emerge.

What is something you dream of creating?
I dream of creating works that inspire people to feel a sense of awe and reverence for our natural world that we are inextricably interwoven with, to feel connected with all life.

How does fashion empower you?
I feel most empowered by fashion when I wear pieces that embody who I truly am. I think we all know that sense of standing in our own power when we are authentic to ourselves, and when I find pieces that feel like me, that is when I feel really good, grounded in myself and empowered.

What does modern femininity mean to you?
For me, it is being able to find strength in softness. We live in a world that values the more masculine energies of speed, force and doing. Bringing balance back to our world by finding strength in the more feminine energies of being, stillness and allowing instead of forcing is what I think is most needed in our modern world.
